Day 1. Fly with EgyptAir from Heathrow to Cairo Meet & Greet transfer to the hotel of your choice Overnight in Cairo.
Day 2. After breakfast, a full day tour starting with a visit to the impressive Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. After lunch a visit to the world-renowned Egyptian Museum, home to a wealth of ancient exhibits including the must see Tutankhamun display. You will also see the imposing Citadel built on the outcrop of the Muqattam Hills during the reign of Salah al-Din (1176-1193) and the Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha, completed in 1857 with its high, slender, octagonal minarets and large dome. Overnight in Cairo.
Day 3. After breakfast, you leave Cairo in the direction of Alexandria where you will make a stop and a visit to the Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa. Discovered accidentally by a stumbling donkey in 1900, they consist of three tiers of eerie tombs and chambers cut out of the rock to a depth of 35m. With a dominating position at the very end of the peninsula providing fine views from the battlements, the Citadel of Qaitbai was built in 1479 on the site, and most probably, from the remnants of the Lighthouse of Pharos. You will then continue to the lush oasis of Siwa, travelling through the WWII battlefield of El Alamein, stopping for lunch and arriving in Siwa just in time for dinner. Overnight in Siwa.
Day 4. After breakfast, a morning visit to Shaly, the old city of Siwa and then onto Gebel al-Mawta, or also known as the 'The Mountain of the Dead', honeycombed with rock tombs dating back to Ptolemaic and Roman times. Not far from here are the ruins of the Temple of the Oracle, built sometime in the 6th century BC and dedicated to Amun, the ram-headed god of life. After seizing Egypt in 331BC, Alexander the Great made the journey to Amun to consult with the Oracle who proclaimed him the new Pharaoh. After lunch, an off-road drive the Great Sand Sea and visit the Fossil Sea, a hot spring and the opportunity for a quick dip in the fresh water lake before driving back to tour the House of Siwa daily life museum. Dinner and overnight in Siwa.
Day 5. After breakfast, an off-road drive to Baharia Oasis with a lunch stop by Sitra Lake, before arriving late afternoon in Baharia for dinner and overnight.
Day 6. After breakfast, a real treat as you visit the Museum of the Golden Mummies. Only discovered in the nineties, the mummies are all different, representing individual men, women and children, each with a painted smile. After lunch and afternoon tour to explore the daily life activities of this Oasis and then dinner and overnight in Baharia.
Day 7. After breakfast, the morning will begin with a journey to the Black Desert, with its volcanic shaped mountains and fine black powder darkening the land. Next, the Crystal Mountain, or more accurately a small mountain made of calcite before arriving at the White Desert, with its eerie landscape that has been compared to the Arctic wasteland. After lunch you will visit the daily life museum of Farafra Oasis and as you continue towards Dakhla Oasis, there will be a stop at Bashendito see the Graeco-Roman tombs. Arrive in Dakhla where you will dine and overnight.
Day 8. After breakfast, your first call is as the Islamic city of Al-Qasr, originally a Roman settlement and Dakhla's fortified medieval capital. Not far from here are the El-Mizawaqah tombs, again dating from the time of Roman occupation and decorated according to the Egyptian style. After lunch you will continue onto Kharga Oasis where you will have dinner and overnight.
Day 9. After breakfast, a visit to the Necropolis of El-Baqawat is the main attraction of the day where 263 baked brick tombs, originating from an early Christian burial site dating from around the 3rd to 7th centuries, lie crumbling in the desert. A short distance away is the Temple of Hibis, dedicated to Amun, and constructed at the outset of Persian occupation around 500BC. After lunch, a final push towards the Nile and Luxor, where you will check-in to the hotel of your choice. Overnight in Luxor.
Day 10. After breakfast, a full day tour of a selection of Luxor's finest gems, including the Valley of the Kings, Medinet Habu, the very sizable mortuary temple of Ramses III, and the Ramesseum, the state-cult temple of his father and predecessor, Ramses II. After lunch, you will return to the other bank of the Nile and complete the tour with visits to both the impressive Karnak Temple, and smaller, but none the less fascinating Luxor Temple. Overnight in Luxor.
Day 11. Early breakfast, then transfer to Luxor airport for your EgyptAir flight to Cairo and then onwards to Heathrow.
